Woodward's Gripe Water - Alcohol Free & Sugar Free

Terpeneless dill seed oil 2.3mg/5mL, Sodium hydrogen carbonate 52.5mg/5mL

1- What is this medicine used for

This medicine is an antacid and antiflatulent product. It is used to relieve griping pain or waves of severe abdominal pain (infant colic) in babies, due to trapped air in the tummy. It can be given to babies from 1 to 12 months. Do not use in children under 1 month.

2- Before you use this medicine
Do not give to a baby:
  • who is allergic to any of the ingredients in this product (see section 6)
  • who has kidney problems.
  • Hypersensitivity to dill seed oil, sodium hydrogen carbonate (sodium bicarbonate) or to any of the excipients in the product.
  • Children with metabolic alkalosis (when the blood is more alkaline than normal (a measure of blood pH), caused by excess bicarbonate in the blood or a loss of acid from the blood) or respiratory alkalosis (a low level of carbon dioxide in the blood that results from rapid or deep breathing), hypocalcaemia (levels of calcium in the blood are too low), or hypochloraemia (low level of chloride in the blood, leading to electrolyte imbalance).
  • If your child is aged 1 year and over.

Important information about some of the ingredients

This product is sugar free but contains maltitol, which may affect blood sugar levels. Therefore if your baby has an inherited intolerance to some sugars, check with your doctor before giving this medicine. Please do not take this medicine with patients suffering from rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance. May have a mild laxative effect. Calorific value 2.3 kcal/g maltitol.

This medicine contains hydroxybenzoate derivatives (E215, E217 and E219) which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).

This medicine contains 15.73 mg sodium (main component of cooking/table salt) in each 5ml. This is equivalent to 0.8% of the recommended maximum daily dietary intake of sodium for an adult.

This medicine contains 200 mg propylene glycol in each 5 ml. If your child is less than 1 month old, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before giving them this medicine, in particular if they use other medicines that contain propylene glycol or alcohol. If you suffer from a liver or kidney disease, do not take this medicine unless recommended by your doctor. Your doctor may carry out extra checks while you are taking this medicine.

Maximum Daily Dose:

Sodium: 188.76 mg (8.21 mmol)

Propylene glycol for child aged

6-12 months**: 2400 mg

Propylene glycol for child aged

1-6 months***: 1200 mg

Maltitol liquid: 11.4 g

3- How to use this medicine

This medicine is only for babies from 1 to 12 months old. For babies Under one month old - Not to be used.

1-6 months old: one 5mL spoonful

6-12 months old: two 5mL spoonfuls

Give during or after a feed.

Do not use more than 6 times in 24 hours. Allow two hours before administering other medicinal products, where possible.

If symptoms persist, contact your doctor.

If you give your baby too much of this medicine, speak to a doctor or pharmacist at once.

4- Possible side effects

If your baby experiences any side effect such as allergic reaction, after using this product, stop using it and seek medical advice.

5- How to store this medicine

KEEP OUT OF THE SIGHT AND REACH OF CHILDREN.

Store below 25°C.

Use within 14 days after first opening. Use before the expiry date shown on the front of the bottle.

Woodward's Gripe Water - Alcohol Free & Sugar Free is an oral solution containing terpeneless dill seed oil 2.3mg/5ml, and sodium hydrogen carbonate 52.5mg/5mL as active ingredients and also maltitol liquid, glycerol, sodium salts of esters of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (E215, E217 and E219), disodium edetate, propylene glycol and purified water.
