Your medicine

Survanta is used to prevent or treat respiratory distress syndrome in premature babies. Respiratory distress syndrome is a serious breathing problem that happens because premature babies' lungs do not produce enough surfactant. Surfactant is a substance that makes it easier to breathe and helps stop the lungs from collapsing. Survanta works in the same way as surfactant and helps premature babies to breathe normally.

If you feel that the medicine is making you unwell or you do not think it is working, then talk to your prescriber or someone involved in your medical care.
