Rare: More than 1 in 10,000 people who have Marcain Polyamp Steripack:

  • allergic reactions
  • anaphylactic shock
  • cardiac arrest - this may be fatal
  • double vision
  • neurological problems such as neuropathies, paresis, injury to nerves of the extremities or arachnoiditis - these problems may lead to loss of feeling or sensation, problems with movement, paralysis below the waist or loss of sphincter control. Some of these problems may be permanent
  • respiratory depression

The frequency of these side-effects is unknown:

  • abscess
  • apnoea - this may happen if Marcain Polyamp Steripack is given incorrectly
  • brain or central nervous system problems
  • death
  • dose tolerance
  • heart or circulation problems
  • liver problems - these may occur if Marcain Polyamp Steripack is given repeatedly or for a long period of time
  • reduced alertness
  • temporary blindness - this may occur when Marcain Polyamp Steripack is used for eye surgery

If you feel unwell or if you have concerns about a side-effect, tell the person looking after you immediately.
