PIL Avandia tablets

Avandia 4mg & 8mg film-coated Tablets

Use of this medicine has been suspended by the European medicines agency (EMA).

The following advice has been issued to patients and healthcare professionals:

  • Prescribers should review the treatment of diabetic patients currently taking Avandia. The Chairman of the Commission on Human Medicines is sending a letter with advice to healthcare professionals, through the Department of Health's Central Alerting System.
  • Patients currently taking Avandia should consult their doctor about alternative treatment.
  • Patients should not stop treatment with Avandia (rosiglitazone) without consulting their doctor as it is helping to control their blood sugar levels.

Further information about the Europe-wide suspension of Avandia is provided by the UK medicines licensing agency, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority (MHRA).
