The metabolism of oestrogens may be increased by concomitant use of substances known to induce drug metabolising enzymes, specifically cytochrome P450 enzymes, such as anti-convulsants (e.g. phenobarbitol, phenytoin, carbamazepine), anti-infectives (e.g. rifampicin, rifabutin, nevirapine, efavirenz) and modafinil.

Ethinylestradiol has been shown to decrease serum concentrations of lamotrigine when the two drugs are co-administered.
